Continuing Improvements

The center is visited regularly by industry professionals in the turf and landscape business interested in the newest green technologies.

Creeping bentgrass, Kentucky bluegrass, roughstalk bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, sheeps fescue, chewings fescue, creeping red fescue, hard fescue, tall fescue, zoysia, and bermudagrass are maintained on-site at appropriate heights of cut.  Weed populations including dandelion, wild violet, ground ivy, nutsedge, goosegrass, dallisgrass, crabgrass, plantains, and clover are also managed on the premises.

The center features a 62-zone computer controlled irrigation system that covers over 250,000 sq. ft. of high maintenance turf.  In 2012 the on-site irrigation pond was enlarged and lined, assuring the availability of water in even the driest of years.

A fleet of reel and rotary-type mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, sprayers, and tillage equipment help maintain the twenty acre facility to the highest standards.

All of the buildings at the facility were built with the intention of conducting field trials.  The site also features a greenhouse, a container nursery area, and a laboratory.

The features of the center improve every year. Nearly all of the turf at the facility was planted with popular commercial turf varieties in order to closely replicate what is typically used in the industry.  The center’s relationship with seed producers allows SETRC access to the best new varieties even before they are commercially available.  The center is in a constant state of refinement as customer and consumer needs evolve.
